'Laiyuan', where Mingtai College is located, was built by Lin Wenqin, a Juren (successful candidate in the imperial examinations) of the Lin family, to honor his mother. It later became widely known throughout Taiwan as the Wufeng Lin Family Garden. The Lin Family Garden, built from the mid-Qing Dynasty to the present, has undergone many changes over the years, with significant variations in architectural style. Later periods even saw the emergence of new buildings and gardens that combined Chinese, Western, and Japanese styles.
