Lai Kao-Shan Art Memorial Museum. Mr. Lai Kao-Shan studied under the Japanese artist Yamanaka Kō, learning carving techniques that incorporated Taiwanese imagery and the lacquer craft "Hōrai-nuri" at the "Taichung Technical College of Industry and Commerce.". In 2000, Mr. Lai and his son converted their former lacquer factory and residence into the "Taiwan Lacquer Culture Museum." The museum now focuses on the life and works of Mr. Lai Kao-Shan, as well as the development of Taiwanese lacquer culture, promoting Taichung's unique lacquer culture as a Taiwanese specialty.
