The original three-section courtyard's gatehouse was built with rammed earth and was not very conspicuous. In the 13th year of the Taisho era (1924 AD) during the Japanese colonial period, Chong Ren Gong, following the advice of a geomancer from Tangshan, built a new gatehouse to the south of the old one, believing that the family business would prosper thereafter. The new gatehouse was named Ji Shan Lou, meaning to encourage future generations to do good and help others.
