Wushan in Nanhua is the boundary between Tainan and Kaohsiung, making the Wushan Hiking Trail System a favorite for Tainan residents and people from nearby areas like Neimen, Kaohsiung, for weekend hikes. The Wushan Hiking Trail spans approximately 12 kilometers from north to south, with varying degrees of steepness. However, the signage and trail conditions are very well-maintained and clear. Completing the entire trail takes about 9-10 hours. The most popular section among visitors is the hiking route behind Houde Zizhu Temple on Jinguang Mountain. Many people arrive early in the morning. Besides offering a panoramic view of the Chianan Plain from a high vantage point in front of the temple, the views from the Wushan trail ridge are even more expansive. In addition to the plains, you can also gaze at the rolling mountains of Kaohsiung. The northern section of the trail near Zizhu Temple is relatively easier, with a longer distance but gentler slopes, and there are pavilions along the way for rest. The southern section of the trail is shorter but steeper, offering a more physically challenging experience. Both sections lead to the high ridge of Wushan, allowing you to enjoy the pleasure of ascending and taking in the distant views. After descending, you can visit Zizhu Temple to enjoy the vegetarian buffet prepared by the temple. It's not only a great place for hiking but also for savoring delicious, Zen-inspired cuisine. Finally, find a cozy cafe to spend a leisurely afternoon before heading down the mountain.
