Built in 1952 as the Taiwan Salt Corporation Salt Workers' Welfare Center, it is a traditional sloping-roof bungalow that was an early place for salt workers to buy daily necessities and a recreation center. It was left vacant until the Bei Men Salt Field closed in 2001. In 2003, the space was revitalized, giving this historic old house, representative of the local industry, a new look. The walls are covered with discarded salt field tiles, seashells, and oyster shells from the local area. The outer courtyard is also decorated with many seashells and buoys, giving Qian Lai Ye General Store a very marine-style name, "Seashell House." After the renovation, it was managed by a vendor, restoring Qian Lai Ye General Store to its former glory. The interior sells various nostalgic snacks and local-style cultural and creative souvenirs, making it a place that many tourists visit and shop at after arriving in Bei Men.
