Unlike typical temples dedicated to Buddhist or Taoist deities, this temple venerates five women who became deities: Yuan, Wang, Xiugu, Meijie, and Hejie. They were the consorts and concubines of Prince Ningjing during the Zheng dynasty. Historical records state that when Shi Lang invaded Taiwan, the Ming Prince Ningjing, Zhu Shigui, resolved to die for his country. His five concubines decided to share his fate and subsequently hanged themselves in the Prince Ningjing's residence.
