November 2016 was a big day for the former Tainan District Court to reopen after restoration, and a major event in Tainan City that year. The former Tainan District Court, built in 1912, features spectacular columns and a circular Baroque roof on the exterior. Inside, you can see a magnificent dome similar to the grand hall of the Chimei Museum, with excellent lighting. The large columns around the dome are exquisitely carved. The floor retains the original Victorian-style geometric patterned colorful mosaic tiles from the Japanese colonial era. Entering the court feels like stepping into a real-life textbook of modern Baroque architecture, with breathtaking details everywhere. This is all thanks to Mr. Matsunosuke Moriyama, who designed countless classic buildings that have been passed down through generations during his 16 years in Taiwan.
