In the 12th year of the Taisho era (1923) during the Japanese colonial period, a tap water system began to be established in the Anping area. However, the Yanping Street Ancient Well was not abandoned. Because the bean sprouts incubated with the well water tasted delicious, the reputation spread throughout the market street, and many people came to buy them. The area near the ancient well was formerly known as "Dou Cai Liao" (Bean Sprout Shed), and the well was called "Dou Cai Ya Zi Jing" (Bean Sprout Well). During World War II, due to the destruction of the tap water system by the war, the well water was once again supplied to local residents for drinking until the tap water system was restored, after which it was abandoned again, resulting in its current appearance.
