The former Japanese Army Infantry Second Regiment Barracks is located directly opposite the familiar Banyan Garden. It is currently used by departments such as the Department of History (College of Arts) and the Department of Industrial Design (Dacheng Hall) at NCKU. It is one of the few military buildings from the Japanese colonial era that has been preserved. The Second Regiment stationed in Tainan at that time resided here. The barracks were designed by the architectural section of the Japanese Army Quartermaster Corps, adopting the Romanesque portico and columns common at the time. The style is solemn and magnificent. It now serves as classrooms for university students' research and study, a place for many citizens and tourists to stroll on holidays, and a favorite cosplay photography spot for many photographers and influencers.
