The most striking red building inside the main gate of National University of Tainan, originally the main building of Tainan Normal School built in 1922, was then called "Tainan Normal School of the Government-General of Taiwan." During World War II in 1945, it was hit by an aerial bomb, and the roof was almost completely destroyed. It was not rebuilt and restored until 1947. The building has a double-ten shape, with red bricks as the main architectural element, hence the name "Red House." In front of the building stands a Ryukyu pine, said to have been planted in 1923 when Crown Prince Hirohito made an inspection tour. Together with the Red House, it has become a spiritual symbol of Tainan University. Every June and July, the golden shower trees inside the Red House are in full bloom, with golden flower cascades complementing the red brick walls, making it the best time to visit.
