According to historical records, during the Zheng dynasty in 1665, there was a salt field in Yancheng, then known as Laikou Salt Field, which may have been Taiwan's first salt field. The former Taiwan Governor-General's Monopoly Bureau Tainan Branch, a municipal historic site, is now commonly known as the "Yancheng Chōjōsho." The building itself served as a salt administration office during the Japanese colonial era and is the only surviving Japanese-style government building constructed through "relocation." It was designated a municipal historic site in 2003, and the Tainan City Cultural Heritage Management Office carried out restoration work in 2015, which was completed in 2017.
