Former Japanese Army Tainan Garrison Hospital. Established in 1897 (Meiji 30) at Chihkan Tower, the Japanese Army Tainan Garrison Hospital was rebuilt in 1917 (Taisho 6) according to the Japanese Army's third-phase permanent barracks plan. In 1937 (Showa 12), it was renamed Tainan Army Hospital. After World War II, in 1948 (Republic of China 37), the Nationalist Government Army took over the site and established the Army Training Command Military Hospital, beginning to treat patients in mid-September. The following year, it was renamed Taiwan Province Army Command Military Hospital, and in April 1950 (Republic of China 39), it was reorganized as the "Army General Headquarters Military Hospital." In October, it was reorganized again as the "Army Officer Academy Military Hospital." In March 1952 (Republic of China 41), it was reorganized as the "Army Independent Hospital," and in May, it was renamed the "Army Hospital," directly under the Army General Headquarters. In 1954 (Republic of China 43), the "Army Hospital" was upgraded to the "Combined Logistics Fourth General Hospital," directly under the Combined Logistics General Headquarters. In 1955 (Republic of China 44), it was transferred to the Medical Department of the Army Logistics Command, and the hospital's name became the "Army Fourth General Hospital."
