With the division of family assets, inheritance, and the soaring land prices caused by urban development, seven exquisite mansions built during the Qing Dynasty faced demolition and reconstruction due to differing opinions among their owners. The "New Fourth House" was one of the earlier ones to be demolished for this reason.
