The banyan trees at NCKU have always been one of Tainan's representative images. Legend has it that they were personally planted by Prince Hirohito of Japan (later Emperor Shōwa) during his visit to Taiwan in 1923. To this day, the banyan trees stand like benevolent old alumni, watching over the NCKU campus daily, welcoming new students from all over and bidding farewell to many graduates who have completed their studies. During graduation season, many students take photos here as a memento, filled with lingering affection.
