The legend behind its founding states that during the Yongli era of the Ming Dynasty, a person surnamed Xiao from Budai Port, Chiayi, passed through this area. While resting, Baosheng Dadi appeared in a dream, instructing him to welcome the deity's statue from Baijiao Township, Tong'an, Quanzhou (Baosheng Dadi's hometown) to Taiwan. Subsequently, the villagers respectfully welcomed the deity's statue from the ancestral temple, Ciji Temple, in Baijiao Township, Tong'an, and built a thatched hut for worship. It wasn't until the 20th year of the Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty (1840), as the population in the Xinying area grew, that the temple was formally established.
