Emerald Convergence - R4 Kaohsiung International Airport Station. The MRT Kaohsiung International Airport Station is the gateway connecting Kaohsiung to the world. To align with the open and bright imagery of Kaohsiung as a maritime city, the MRT designed skylights at the Airport Station. The artwork, "Emerald Convergence," echoes the theme of green water and life. This 3D public art installation, currently the world's largest glass sculpture, was designed and created by German glass artist Lutz Haufschild. The artwork is divided into two walls, A and B. Wall A is themed around the Tree of Life, embodying the concept of continuous growth and vitality. Wall B, "Endless," resembles waves crashing on the shore, calm yet immensely powerful. Complemented by lighting designed to interact with the station's changing light and shadows, tens of thousands of deep and light green glass pieces create varying visual experiences and imaginations for viewers through reflection and refraction, depending on the angle. This radiant, powerful, and imaginative artwork transforms the airport gateway from a mere thoroughfare into a new space for urban residents to engage with art and a hub for aesthetic appreciation in daily life.
