The first section of the house, built by the Xue family ancestors in 1820, was constructed using old materials such as lime, clay, and adobe bricks. Ninety years later (1910), due to the family's prosperity, it expanded to the third section, using red bricks and Banpingshan limestone, covering an area of 1400 ping. The Xue Family Old House boasts rigorous structural craftsmanship. Although it lacks the pavilions and towers of official residences, its traditional folk house architectural charm is evident in the wood carvings, bracket systems, gables, and decorative windows. Walking through this ancient residence feels like stepping back in time, where the pioneers' arduous efforts in farming and sugar production in Zuoying two hundred years ago are palpable in every corner, imbuing it with significant cultural and historical meaning and showcasing the depth of Taiwan's architectural history. Due to its preciousness and cultural value, the Xue Family Old House was selected as one of Kaohsiung City's top ten historical landmarks and is a designated city monument.
