Mino was formerly known as "Minong." During the Qing Dynasty, Hakka people who originally lived in Ligang, Pingtung, crossed the Laonong River and settled in Mino, establishing the "Minong Village" at Moonlight Mountain. Upon its establishment, sixteen surnames of pioneers built 24 traditional Hakka houses and named Yong'an Street, praying for permanent peace and prosperity. This street, with a history of two hundred years, was the earliest and most prosperous street developed at that time. From the Jingzi Pavilion on the west side of Minong Village to the East Gate Tower, a distance of about two kilometers is filled with an ancient and nostalgic atmosphere. Dongsheng Altar, Bogong Shrine, Songwu School, ancient wells, Hakka blue shirt shops, the old Mino Bridge, and irrigation canals, along with countless antique Hakka houses and beautiful gate towers, tell stories of two hundred years of vicissitudes and beauty. When tired, you can order some savory and delicious Hakka snacks at the market. To experience Hakka village culture, visit the Hakka Culture Museum for a deeper understanding or stroll along the irrigation canals to admire the pleasant scenery of Mino. Every eave and corner embodies elegant history and emotion. Yong'an Old Street is indeed a historical microcosm of Hakka culture and the essence of Mino.
