Completed in 1925, this Baroque-style mansion sits on a 900-ping site, expanding to 2,700 ping with its gardens. The architecture is meticulously crafted, elegant, and grand, marking it as the first private Western-style house in the Kaohsiung area. The building is a two-story brick structure, featuring Western architectural elements such as elaborate arches, columns, corridors, and pediments on the exterior. The interior follows a nine-palace grid design, incorporating classical elements like gables, dormer windows, keystones, tiled floors, window frames, and stone pillars, while retaining the traditional Minnan architectural layout, fully showcasing its eclectic Minnan-Western style. Once a symbol of unparalleled grandeur, this premier Western-style house has faded with time. In 1996, the foundation established by the Chen family descendants commissioned the architecture department of National Cheng Kung University to restore it based on historical records and open it to the public, displaying Chen family artifacts. Strolling through the corridors filled with past splendor, one can savor the architectural beauty and the historical grandeur of the former prominent family at every turn.
