Chiang Kai-shek's West Bay Villa is a secluded residence nestled among lush trees within the campus of National Sun Yat-sen University on Lianhai Road, Gushan District. Chiang Kai-shek's West Bay Villa is located on Lianhai Road in Gushan District, a secluded residence nestled among lush trees within the campus of National Sun Yat-sen University. This two-story, Western-Japanese style green building was constructed in 1935 by the Taiwan Governor-General's Office during the Japanese colonial era to commemorate the 40th anniversary of their rule in Taiwan. Due to its proximity to the West Bay Beach, it was once used as a hot spring bathhouse for the beach. Starting in 1952, it became the southern retreat and villa for the late President Chiang Kai-shek. Given its historical significance, the second floor still preserves and displays artifacts related to President Chiang, and the presidential car from that era is still parked in the first-floor courtyard. The first-floor space has been converted into the "West Bay Gallery," quietly narrating the vicissitudes of past eras and political transitions.
