Banping Mountain Nature Park. Zuoying boasts beautiful mountains and clear waters; the beautiful mountain is Banping Mountain, a peculiar hill with coral reef limestone geology containing abundant remains of marine life. The entrance is divided into east and west sides. The west side has a prominent archway labeled "Banping Mountain Hiking Trail" and is equipped with trails, pavilions, etc. It has been famous since the Qing Dynasty and, along with Lotus Pond, is a well-known scenic spot in Kaohsiung, making it a great place for hiking and ecological observation. The east side was originally a cement quarry, which has now ceased operations and is undergoing post-mining land rehabilitation and maintenance. The name and appearance of Banping Mountain were also formed due to past over-mining. Since mining ceased on July 10, 1998, over 20,000 woody plants and more than 340 different types of plants have been cultivated.
