Dongmen Building. During the Qing Dynasty, Meinong Village, centered around Yong'an Street, was surrounded by stockade gates, with only the east stockade gate featuring a city gate tower. The Dongmen Building is Meinong's most famous landmark, with a very unique design. It was first built in 1755 by the Hakka people, who valued education, hoping for future generations to excel, and built an inner tower structure at the east stockade gate. It was rebuilt in 1937 in imitation of the Qing Dynasty's dragon-eaved, phoenix-pavilion exterior. Majestic and elegant, the gate tower is inscribed with the four characters "Great Enlightenment and Civilization," a historic site embodying the rich life of the Meinong people. Located at the end of Yong'an Road, on the main axis running through the village, the Dongmen Building bears witness to the history of Meinong Village's founding. The Meinong River below was once a public laundry area for women.
