After the city government moved in 1992 (Republic of China Year 81), considering that this place had served as the helm of city administration for over fifty years, carrying the trajectory of urban development and the imprints of citizens' lives, and was also a historical site during the 228 Incident, its architecture, both in appearance and content, reflects Kaohsiung's glory, scars, and past. Therefore, the city government repurposed the historic building and renovated it into the Museum of History, becoming Taiwan's first history museum operated by a local government. The museum records the arduous process of our ancestors' pioneering efforts and the development of the city. It is hoped that through the precious artifacts displayed, research, and promotional activities at the Kaohsiung Museum of History, more citizens will understand the development trajectory of Kaohsiung City.
