Laalua Cultural Site — On June 26, 2014, the Laalua people of Taoyuan District were officially registered as the 15th indigenous group by the Council of Indigenous Peoples. They are mainly distributed in the communities of Gaozhong, Li, and Meilong.

Legend has it that the ancestors of this tribe lived with the Dwarfs for a period of time and established a deep friendship. When the Dwarfs were about to leave the tribe, they left large seashells for the tribe as souvenirs, symbolizing "harvest." Remembering this friendship and praying for a bountiful harvest, they gather annually in the upper part of Meilan Community to build a thatch-roofed ceremonial ground and hold the "Shell God Festival" or "Sacred Shell Festival."
