Shanlin is the district with the second-highest proportion of Hakka people in Kaohsiung. The Huang Family House in Yuehmei Village has a history of over a hundred years, witnessing the process of Hakka ancestors entering Shanlin to cultivate the land. The main lintel above the entrance archway is inscribed with "Filial Piety and Friendship Legacy," and the back is inscribed with "Descendants of the Five Classics," symbolizing the meaning of passing down family values through filial piety. This fully demonstrates the Huang family's adherence to their ancestors' teachings, encouraging descendants to be friendly to others, filial to elders, and diligent in their studies. The fan decoration on the archway comes from the story of Huang Xiang's "Fanning the Pillow and Warming the Bed" from the Twenty-Four Filial Exemplars, making it the most well-preserved archway in the Hakka region.
