It was founded in the 51st year of the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty when believers brought a statue of the Heavenly Holy Mother from Tainan Tianhou Temple to Gangshan, with a history of several hundred years. The temple's architecture is magnificent and splendid, designed in a three-story Southern Chinese palace style. The swallowtail roof ridges and cut-and-paste decorations are beautifully crafted, and the interior is ornate and detailed, featuring colorful paintings by the renowned artist Pan Lishui. Both the architecture and art are highly impressive.
