Tongpan Islet Lotus Seat. On the southwest coast of Tongpan Islet, there is a sea-eroded platform, also known as a wave-eroded platform or wave-cut bench. As the name suggests, waves continuously erode the sea cliff, causing the cliff to gradually retreat and form a flat rock platform almost at sea level. Because it is often eroded by seawater and hollowed out around the edges, with only a small raised hill in the center, it resembles a lotus seat from a distance, hence its name. The outer ring of the lotus seat is formed by basalt, and in the middle is seawater left at high tide, along with some mottled traces of basalt eroded by the sea. When the tide recedes and the water goes down, the entire lotus seat is exposed, like a lotus emerging from the water, especially at dusk.
