East Mountain is currently a military control zone and is not open to the public. After the military withdrew from West Mountain, it was converted into Hujing West Mountain Park. The most striking features in West Mountain Park are a large white jade Guanyin statue and eighteen Arhats with distinct expressions. This Guanyin statue was donated by a fellow villager living in Hong Kong to their hometown, Hujing, and was carved by a master from China. The expression and the lines of the clothing are very vivid. Initially, the Guanyin statue was too large to be transported directly and had to be divided into three parts, transported to Hujing, and then reassembled! While strolling through West Mountain Park, you may encounter many agaves. Agaves are drought-tolerant and adaptable, and are often seen in Penghu. However, the edges of agave leaves are very sharp. In the past, agaves were even planted along the coastline for defensive purposes. Hujing is also most famous for its three treasures: centipede wine, cactus juice, and fresh fish soup.
