Dongji Islet, the easternmost of these, is the largest among the South Penghu Islands and the closest island in the Penghu archipelago to Taiwan Island. It was once a transit point for maritime trade between Taiwan and Penghu. The nearby waters have several spiral currents, often causing ships to run aground and sink, hence it is known as the "Black Ditch." To ensure the safety of ships, two lighthouses were built during the Japanese colonial period. The Dongji Lighthouse to the north is the highest point on the island, with its striking black and white striped tower. Due to a former Japanese military presence, the ruins of Japanese artillery barracks, known locally as "Bingcuo" (Soldier's Houses), can be seen on the northeast corner. If you head west from the Visitor Center towards Bagua Mountain and ascend to a higher point, you can overlook Dongji Pier, Dongji Lighthouse, and the surrounding sea views. The rock formations on Bagua Mountain are elongated basalt. On the left side, there is a round rock resembling an eye, known as the "Eye of Dongji." And
