Another theory suggests the name comes from a well that produced sweet spring water, called 'Haojing' (Good Well), which sounds similar to 'Hujing' in Taiwanese Hokkien. The entire island is divided into eastern and western mountains, with the village situated on the narrow land formed by the accumulation of coral fragments between them. The eastern mountain is currently a military control area. After the military's streamlined withdrawal, the western mountain was developed by the Penghu National Scenic Area Administration into a park and recreational area, retaining fortifications built by the Japanese during World War II.
