In Qitou Village, you can also learn about the traditional Penghu fishing method called 'Bao Dun'. 'Dun' refers to a stone structure built in the intertidal zone with an opening, also known as a 'fish house'. It is usually built with local coral rocks, and fishing is done using the tides. During high tide, bottom-dwelling fish swim into the 'Dun', and during low tide, fishermen go to the intertidal zone to dismantle the stone structure and catch the fish inside with nets. The main traditional 'Bao Dun' fishing grounds in Penghu are distributed in the intertidal zones on the north side of Baisha Township. Among them, the 'Dun' clusters in Chihkan and Qitou are larger in scale, with a vast 'Dun' area. The entire reef shelf in Qitou has over 300 'Dun'. Each 'Dun' is stacked with a different number of stones depending on its type and size. Usually, the process begins in spring when the Sargassum grows, as it attracts small groupers to feed near the shore on the stone 'Dun'. After June, the groupers migrate to the outer sea, and the stone 'Dun' becomes useless. Fishermen then dismantle the 'Dun', a process called 'San Dun'. The following spring, fishermen will rebuild the stone 'Dun', which is known as 'Jian Dun'. The main catches include Hawksbill Grouper.
