During the winter northeast monsoon, the waves become even more furious, making navigation difficult. Therefore, construction of the cross-sea bridge began in 1965 and was completed and opened to traffic in 1970, aiming to resolve the transportation challenges for Yuweng Island. Subsequently, due to severe corrosion and bridge collapse, the land bridge was widened in 1984, and a new dual-lane bridge was completed and opened in 1996. Appearing like a rainbow over the sea, it not only holds tourism value but also ensures smooth traffic flow between Xiyu and Baisha. To this day, remnants of early cement pillars and frames can be found in the sea north of the Xiyu end of the bridge, and weathered bridge piers remain on the Xiyu side, each telling a part of the historical saga of early electricity transmission to Xiyu via overhead power lines and the retirement of the old bridge.
