The only single-mouth sac-shaped "lagoon" landscape in Taiwan is at Dapeng Bay, with a water area of approximately 3500 meters, a width of approximately 1800 meters, and a lagoon area of over 532 hectares. The water depth is about 2-6 meters. The formation of the lagoon landscape is due to the sand and silt carried into the sea from upstream by the Donggang River and Linbian River. Through the transport of tidal winds, a long, narrow sand and gravel belt – a "sand spit" – formed outside the bay, separating the original bay from the open sea and leaving only an opening, which is today's Dapeng Bay "lagoon" landscape.
