This area is relatively low-lying and prone to flooding, hence it has been planned as an ecological detention pond combined with an artificial wetland treatment system. During the rainy season, it functions as a detention pond. During the non-rainy season, it treats domestic sewage from Datan Community, aquaculture wastewater, non-point source pollution from Provincial Highway 17, and some domestic sewage from Dapeng Village. The wetland park covers an area of 6 hectares. The entire area includes an inlet on the east and west sides, a sedimentation pond, a subsurface flow constructed wetland (filtration media include waste bricks, concrete blocks, gravel, and oyster shells), a marsh area, a shallow water pond area, an ecological island area, a deep water area, and an outlet. Classified as a type of constructed wetland for storm runoff, Datan Wetland falls between the extended retention type and the pocket type. The entire wetland configuration process is shown in the figure. Bird species observed in the wetland include Black-winged Stilt, Yellow Bittern, Chestnut Bittern, Little Ringed Plover, Kentish Plover, Wood Sandpiper, and Small Buttonquail.
