During its peak, it attracted over 2,000 employees, bringing a second period of prosperity to Checheng, earning the area of Checheng and Shuili the nickname "Little Taipei." After the 1970s, forestry policies shifted to focus on afforestation and land conservation. The domestic and foreign timber sawing industry could no longer continue under the government's logging ban, and most factories faced closure or transformation. To enhance the tourism and recreational resources of the Checheng area and to help visitors understand the past development of the timber industry, the Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration rebuilt the old factory buildings, which were once considered valuable industrial heritage sites, into the Checheng Wood Industry Exhibition Hall.
