Checheng Station is the terminus of the Jiji Branch Line. After the last train arrives at Checheng, the conductor and railway staff rest in the staff dormitory and depart the next day. The trains are then parked in the maintenance depot for upkeep and repair. The Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration has renovated the former railway warehouse, which used to store miscellaneous items, along with surrounding railway facilities and shops, to form a railway cultural park. The Japanese-style staff dormitory has been renovated to resemble the original appearance, recreating the living scenes of railway station masters and employees at that time, allowing visitors to experience Japanese aesthetics. The site of the former maintenance depot has also been preserved, allowing visitors to feel the atmosphere of that era. Introduction to Old Train Cars 1. American GM-EMD-S300 Shunting Diesel Locomotive Taiwan Railways purchased this model in 1966. It is a lightweight shunting locomotive model for Taiwan Railways and the most numerous type of shunting diesel locomotive. Its maximum speed is 70 km/hr, with 950 HP. The total weight of the locomotive is 54 tons. The locomotive numbers are S301-S321, with an original quantity of 21 units. However, due to its smaller engine, its horsepower and speed were inferior, and its performance was worse than the S200 model. As the service life of the S300 model reached its end, Taiwan Railways gradually phased out this type of locomotive. Most of them have been scrapped and deregistered, replaced by the new DHL100 diesel-hydraulic locomotive. Only S316 remains.
