Puli Winery is a historic and representative winery in Taiwan, established in 1917 (Taisho 6th year of the Japanese era) by local gentry in Puli who advocated for the establishment of the "Puli Brewery Co., Ltd.". Utilizing Puli's unique water quality, climate, and environment, it began producing products such as sake, rice wine, and glutinous rice wine, becoming an important brewing base in the central region. During the Japanese colonial period, Puli Winery was acquired by the Japanese government in 1922 and reorganized under the "Taiwan Governor-General's Monopoly Bureau Puli Branch Office," renamed "Puli Distillery," and continued to produce various alcoholic beverages such as Fukuro Sake, Manju Sake, and various types of rice wine. After World War II, it was taken over by the Taiwan Provincial Government and established as the "Taiwan Provincial Monopoly Bureau Alcohol Industry Company Taichung Winery Puli Branch." In the 1960s, it was officially named "Taiwan Provincial Monopoly Bureau Puli Winery," gradually expanding its production scale. In the 1980s, it launched the famous "Ailan Baijiu," becoming an important representative of Taiwanese Shaoxing wine. Puli Winery operates under the philosophy of "Cultural Brewing, Artistic Tourism," combining traditional brewing craftsmanship with tourism experiences. It features a Wine Culture Museum, showcasing rich wine culture history and offering free guided tours, allowing visitors to understand the brewing process from a grain of rice to a drop of wine. The winery also offers DIY activities, where visitors can personally experience the joy of winemaking and taste.
