There are two theories about the origin of the local place name, Chonggui. The first is that during the Qing Dynasty, indigenous people frequently raided and killed travelers near the Tudigong Anling pass on the old Shuiliantou ancient road. Therefore, the Qing court stationed militia to protect merchants traveling back and forth, and a gunpowder depot was established at that time, hence the name Chonggui. The second theory is that after the Qing court ceded Taiwan to Japan, residents in the Sun Moon Lake area resisted the Japanese army's entry by defending from the heights of Tudigong Anling near Chonggui, thus the name Chonggui. Tianbao Temple was built during the Japanese colonial period, with the Three Honored Ones (Lord Guan, Lü Dongbin, and the Kitchen God) as the main deities, and the temple is magnificent. In the autumn of 1985, Prince Marshal was ordered to guard Tianbao Temple. Due to his repeated displays of divine power, the Honored Ones descended via spiritual medium and instructed devotees to build a 6 zhang 2 chi 7 cun tall statue of Prince Marshal behind the temple to showcase the divine miracles of Prince Nezha protecting the villagers. Due to the towering stature of Prince Nezha, the statue has become a prominent landmark of Chonggui.
