Ci'en Pagoda was built in 1969 and completed in 1971 by the late President Chiang Kai-shek in memory of his mother, Madame Wang, symbolizing filial piety and gratitude. From the top of the pagoda, visitors can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of Sun Moon Lake's scenery. The northeastern part of the lake is wide like the sun, while the southwestern part is long and narrow like a crescent moon, clearly illustrating the origin of Sun Moon Lake's name. The expansive view from the top overlooks Hanbi Peninsula, Lalu Island, Xuanguang Temple, Xuangzang Temple, and other sites. These attractions, along with Ci'en Pagoda, form a visual axis known as the "Line of Happiness," where many visitors make wishes and pray for blessings. Directly opposite Ci'en Pagoda stands a two-story memorial hall for Madame Wang. This Chinese-style building once housed Chiang Kai-shek's lounge on the first floor, displaying Madame Wang's portrait and simple furniture. The basement floor exhibits engineering photos, design drafts, and Chiang Kai-shek's handwritten directives from the construction of Ci'en Pagoda, fully demonstrating his emphasis on this project. The Ci'en Pagoda Trail is approximately 570 meters long, shaded by lush greenery throughout. Even on hot summer days, walking on the wide trail feels pleasant and not stifling. The design of the stone slab path adheres to ergonomic principles.
