The Shuishe Great Mountain Hiking Trail is the route to Shuishe Great Mountain, the highest peak in the Sun Moon Lake area at 2059 meters above sea level. The trail is approximately 5.6 kilometers one way, making it about 11 kilometers round trip, with an elevation gain of over 1280 meters. It is a moderately challenging route, suitable for hikers with a certain level of fitness and hiking experience. The entire hike takes about 6 to 8 hours to complete. It is recommended to start early and carry sufficient water and supplies. The trailhead is located next to the restaurant at the Sun Moon Lake Youth Activity Center. The first 1.6 kilometers are stone steps, after which it transitions to an original mountain path. The vegetation changes along the way, from low-altitude broadleaf forests and Taiwan camphor trees to gradually transitioning into mid-to-high altitude Moso bamboo forests and azalea forests, finally entering temperate Yushan dwarf bamboo forests. The ecosystem is rich and diverse, making it an excellent route for observing mountain forest ecology. There are several pavilions and viewpoints along the way, where hikers can overlook the panoramic view of Sun Moon Lake, Lalu Island, and the magnificent mountain ranges of the Central Mountain Range.
