Chen Guoming, who operated the Li Lai Ju handmade udon restaurant in Taichung City for 20 years, was hired in 2011 as an adjunct assistant professor-level professional technical teacher in the Department of Tourism, Leisure, and Hospitality Management at National Chi Nan University. He fell in love with the good environment of Puli. In early December 2012, guided by villagers, Professor Guoming discovered this dilapidated old house at No. 1, Zhonggua Road, Taomi Village. Professor Guoming recalled the situation at the time: "The dilapidated state of the old house cannot be described in a few words. Not only was the old house without doors or windows, but the interior was cluttered with debris. Due to severe roof leaks, weeds and small trees were scattered everywhere inside. The cement floor in the courtyard was filled with mud and overgrown with weeds; the low brick wall in the backyard had collapsed and was impassable; the awning in the side yard had also collapsed. At that time, friends advised me that rebuilding was the best option!" Standing before the old house today and examining its current appearance, it is hard to connect it with Professor Guoming's memories. Professor Guoming must have put immense effort into the restoration of the Taomi Academy old house. Taomi Academy, dedicated to being the first person to pass down the technique of Taiwanese handmade udon, also offers reservation-based services daily.
