Its original name was "Medicinal Plant Cultivation Experimental Site" and it was located in Wucheng Village, Yuchi Township, Nantou County. In 1933, it was renamed "Lianhua Pond Experimental Site"; in 1943, it was renamed "Lianhua Pond Branch"; after retrocession, in 1945, it was renamed "Lianhua Pond Branch of the Taiwan Forestry Research Institute"; in 1949, it was transferred to the Department of Agriculture and Forestry, Taiwan Provincial Government; in 1999, it was renamed "Lianhua Pond Branch of the Forestry Research Institute, Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan"; in 2002, it was renamed "Lianhua Pond Research Center of the Forestry Research Institute, Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan"; in 2023, it was renamed "Lianhua Pond Research Center, Forestry Research Institute, Ministry of Agriculture" and remains so to this day. Central Taiwan Forest Ecology and Natural Resource Conservation The Lianhua Pond Experimental Forest has abundant biodiversity. Current surveys of flora and fauna within the area include 177 families, 561 genera, and 879 species of higher plants, of which 589 are native and 290 are introduced. There are 78 species of wild birds. Additionally, surveys have identified 24 species of frogs, 10 species of lizards, 11 species of reptiles, and 20 species of mammals. Insect species include, for example, 131 species of butterflies and moths.
