Checheng Elementary School was closed in 2015 due to declining birth rates, and the campus was left vacant for many years. To revitalize this precious space, the Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration and the Nantou County Government collaborated to renovate the school buildings into the "Railway Tourism Elementary School" and establish a new Checheng Visitor Center, successfully transforming the former campus into a popular attraction integrating education, culture, and tourism. Located on the second floor, the railway-themed exhibition hall meticulously presents the entire route of the Jiji Line from its starting station Ershui, Yuanquan, Zhuoshui, Longquan, Jiji, Shuili to the terminal station Checheng with life-sized models, allowing visitors to "walk through" the Jiji Line railway indoors. The exhibition hall also houses historical train tickets and railway artifacts from Taiwan Railways, and features a simulated train tunnel scene, the "Jiguang Tunnel," with rich historical data displayed on both sides, providing in-depth knowledge of railway culture. The Checheng Railway Tourism Elementary School combines railway culture, historical preservation, and interactive experiences, making it suitable for family trips, railway enthusiasts, and cultural lovers. Visitors can obtain detailed travel information at the visitor center and explore the Checheng Old Street, the Logging Pond, and the surrounding wood industry exhibition halls to enjoy rich cultural and natural scenery.
