Yuehmei Pond Liu Family Old House. At the foot of Bagua Mountain, next to Shan Jiao Road (County Highway 137) in Nanya Village, Shetou Township, Changhua County, lies Taiwan's most expansive architectural complex, the Qijiao Liu Family House and Yuehmei Pond Liu Family House. The former has 16 side wings, and the latter has 13. This is a form of clustered defense developed by the Hoklo-Hakka ethnic group and other weaker groups seeking refuge at the foot of the mountain during early migration and inter-ethnic conflicts. Feng shui masters identified it as a "Mao Xie" (Fiddler Crab) dwelling. The inner side wings on the left and right were specifically designed as "Xiang Bei Cuo" (houses connected back-to-back), forming the "large claws" of a fiddler crab. The outer side wings are the "crab legs," and the main house is the "crab body." It was named "Ning Yuan Tang" and faces west-southwest. It was named "Tuan Yuan Tang." When the house was first built, feng shui masters identified it as a "Tu Shi" (Catfish) dwelling. Therefore, a crescent-shaped pond was built in front of the house for nurturing. Water channels connect the spaces between the side wings. It faces west.
