The development and prosperity of Ershui Township are inextricably linked to trains. During the Japanese occupation period, it was the only township with three types of railways: the main line railway, the Jiji line railway, and the Taiwan Sugar railway. Therefore, the people of Ershui have a deep affection for traditional old trains. The Jiji line railway was built in the 19th year of the Republic of China (1930) and was originally constructed to transport materials for the Sun Moon Lake hydroelectric power plant. It later played a significant role in transporting agricultural products along the line. However, with the development and convenience of highways, its operations have now shifted to focus on tourism and recreation.
