Dongjiang New Village Tribe. Dongjiang New Village Tribe is a settlement located about 300 meters to the right and above the direction from Nanzhuang Bridge towards Donghe Village. This tribe's formation is unique as the only non-traditional settlement in the township. This tribe's formation is unique as the only non-traditional settlement in the township. The Atayal people in this township are currently mainly distributed in Donghe Village and Nanjiang Village. Most of the residents in Nanjiang Village live in Dongjiang New Village Tribe. The formation of Dongjiang New Village Tribe was due to geologists surveying the Lucang Terrace in 1976 and deeming the area prone to subsidence. The government then assisted in relocating the Atayal people originally living there to Nanjiang Village (now Nanjiang Village, 24th and 25th neighborhoods), and Fengmei Village was merged into the current Donghe Village. The area of Sasasezeman (Saisiyat language) roughly extends from the Kangji Suspension Bridge, Nanjiang Old Street, to the Nursery Garden and Dongjiang Hot Springs. Originally inhabited mostly by the Saisiyat people, Hakka people later moved in, and the Saisiyat people gradually migrated to the mountainous areas. With the passage of time, the current residents of this tribe no longer remember the early tribal names. Due to industries being located in the original tribal area, and the limited land of Dongjiang New Village, the population increased over the years. Furthermore, as industries are in the mountains, a large portion of the tribe members returned to their original settlements. During the Ancestral Spirit Festival, tribe members also bring their families back to their original settlements to hold the ceremony. One of the tribal characteristics is that residents have diverse religious beliefs, including the True Jesus Church Dongjiang Branch, the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan Dongjiang Branch, and the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
