As early as the Japanese colonial era, Zhushan was an important spot for viewing sunrises, though at the time, one could only reach Zhushan or Duigaoyue via hiking trails. Starting in 1971, the Forestry Bureau opened the Zhushan Forest Road to replace the original narrow paths. However, due to issues like traffic conflicts and exhaust pollution, a railway was constructed in May 1984, and vehicle access was restricted. As the Zhushan Line railway only operates in the early morning, departing hastily after sunrise, it is Taiwan's highest train station and the nation's earliest station for commuters!
