Liugui Tunnel — Liugui Tunnel is located within the Eighteen Arhats Mountain in Liugui District. It opened to traffic in October of the 26th year of the Republic of China (1937). In the early days, Liugui District was rich in camphor trees, especially in the Shanping Experimental Forest Area.

To overcome the transportation difficulties in logging camphor trees for camphor oil production, the Japanese excavated the tunnel through the conglomerate rock formations of the Eighteen Arhats Mountain to build the Liugui Tunnel. Early villagers called it "Liuzuo Ku" (Six Caves). In 1992, after the outer ring road opened, the tunnel was rarely used. In 2009, due to Typhoon Morakot severely impacting the mountainous areas of central and southern Taiwan, the rising river water washed away the roadbed, causing the outer ring road to be interrupted.
