The Tiaoshi Coast area was once inhabited by many households who made a living from the sea, often fishing or gathering seaweed. Before the opening of the Tamsui-Jinshan Highway, the rough waves made passage difficult. Residents and travelers had to wait for low tide and hop from one large rock to another along the shore, giving rise to the name "Tiaoshi" (Jumping Rocks). The northern coastal land where Jinshan is located was originally deposited on the seabed and later uplifted due to crustal movement. Subsequently, the collision between the Eurasian Plate and the Philippine Sea Plate caused geothermal heat to melt into magma, erupting to form the Tatun Volcano Group. The volcanic ejecta flowed in all directions, and the Tiaoshi Coast is a remnant of these deposits, now forming a unique volcanic coastal landscape. The scattered rocks and massive boulders of the Tiaoshi Coast create a shimmering sea with fine, wind-blown waves. The rolling white waves, like silver surges, showcase the magnificent, rugged, and gentle charm of nature's creation. As you drive to the Tiaoshi Coast and gaze upon this long coastline piled with countless pebbles of various sizes, imagine the hardships of our ancestors carrying heavy loads of agricultural and fishery products, leaping forward among the pebbles.
