Waishanding Sandbar is located about 10 kilometers offshore from Yunlin and Chiayi. Affected by waves, coastal currents, and the northeast monsoon, Waishanding Sandbar drifts southwestward by an average of 60 to 70 meters annually, earning it the nickname "moving territory." It is primarily formed by the vast amounts of silt and sand carried by the Zhuoshui River as it flows into the sea. The barrier formed by Waishanding Sandbar creates a calm and expansive sea area, the Dongshi Lagoon, between the sandbar and Chiayi County, which has led to the flourishing of oyster farming.
